Situps equals six pack abs?
Everyday I am at the gym I see dozens of people walk through the door and start their routines. Usually some where in the process of their workouts you see them do some form of abs. Most of their ab routine will consist of situps and crunches. However all the people that I see doing these routines dont have six pack abs…they don’t have abs at all. Most have big fat round stomachs.
The truth about your abs is that you will never see them if your body fat percentage is not below 12%. I know crazy right? So no matter how many crunches or situps you do if your a fatty…well that means no six pack.
Don’t worry it is possible to achieve that ellusive six pack doing other things besides killing yourself with borring situps and crunches. Listen to me…hahaha…..I sound like one of those informercials “buy my product today and you will be sexy” Ok back to reality. Here are some things to consider in order to get that six pack.
1) The first thing you need to do is get your eating habits in check. Make sure that you are eating clean food, low sodium, whole grain carbs. Feed yourself at the appropriate times.
2) Start doing high intensity cardio 3-4 times per week for 30 minute sessions at a time
3) Incorporate the exercise ball into your weight lifting. Instead of laying flat on the bench to do your dumbell press trying laying on the ball with your legs out and bent at 90 degrees so your core is forced to stabilize and keep you from falling off. Or sit on the ball to do military presses. Play around with different exercises and always use your core to stabilize and balance your body.
4) Try using plyometrics in your routine. This is a great way to tighten your muscles and engauge your hip inductors to force your abs to work. Plyometrics are great for lower body and core strength.
5) Do olympic style lifting. Things like dead lifts, clean and jerk and the snatch are all great exercise that will engauge your core to work hard and lean out your body.
These are just a few thing that will help in your goal to achieving the six pack you have only dreamed of. I will be posting more articles on this subject in the weeks to come. Enjoy!

Everytime I ask someone I get a different answer – how often should we workout our abs?

How often should we workout our abs?
I dont believe in doing abs every day. Bascially abs are a muscle group you would not train your chest everyday so why your abs? That being said doing abs 2-3 times a week would not be a bad idea. Basically you want to encorporate exerces that force your core to work. Things like dumbell press on the exercise ball or dead lifts. If you are going to work just your abs, I find exercises like hanging leg raises with a dumbell attached is a great thing. Or using the ab wheel. hope that helps you out
I agree,But my advice is to do some sort of cardio for at least 30 minutes
Also, in order to lose at least a pound, you have to exercise daily over the course of a week.
But why is it so difficult for most people to get a six pack?

Well not quite sure if i agree with you on the cardio. since cardio has a funny way of eating away at muscle fibre. However if you are doing quick sprints for short periods of time similar to what a 100m runner or running back would do then this would help in your quest to get abs. The reason i believe so many people have issues (myslef included) is DIET! lets be honest do you really make the sacrifice that is needed to ensure that your body fat percentage is around 10% or less?
Well said. Too many peoplpe are caught up on sit-ups and crunches instead of building the muscle needed to burn off fat. Get your body fat down and you might just find out you already have some nice abs that were just hidden underneath all that fat.
Would have to agree that diet is a big part of getting that six pack and making sure your core is engaged in all types of training.
Very Informative Post. You made some good points. I especially liked it. Keep up the good work. Thanks with regards
This article is right on. When my wife discovered she had diabetes I started on her low carb diet to make meal prep easier. Once I started the low carb diet, I immediately started seeing great results in my abs and over all weight loss. I’m not talking Atkins here just cutting out sugar and breads.
