The best way to lose body fat

canyon_midA lot of people always ask…what is the best way to lose body fat? Well I have to say weight training. To be honest there is no way to lose those unsightly pounds with out lifting some form of weights. The response you get when you tell people something like this is usually mixed. Most folks will turn around and just agree and ask you what kind of exercises to do or how to split up your training. But you get the occasional few that turn around and say”but i don’t want to get big like those guys at the gym”. Every time I hear this a burst out laughing. No matter how much time you spend in there you will never get to Arnold Schwarzenegger size (in his prime) without steroids. So don’t worry people you have nothing to fear. And to be blunt if you are fat and have some extra weight to lose, the chances of you winning the lottery are probably better than you getting huge and muscular like Arnold from lifting weights.

If you are really serious about getting back into shape you need to set a goal and it has to be realistic. There have been studies that have been done that suggest you should shoot for no more than 2-3 pounds per week. Whether you want to hear it or not you need to watch your calorie intake. The average adult male should consume roughly 2500 calories a day while the average adult woman should consume around 2000 calories per day. In order for you to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you consume. Now by no means am I suggesting you cosnume less than half the calories needed to live. This would be dangerous and unhealthy.Make sure that your meals consist of a well balanced ration of fats, carbs (carbohydrates) and protein. The zone diet is a great example of a well balanced meal plan the ratio of food is 40% carbs, 30%fat, 30% protein. Try to keep 4-5 meals a day with each meal being 350-400 calories.

Now that you have a basic idea of a meal plan we need to discuss the type of training that needs to be done in the gym. In order to build muscle and lose fat you need to be in the gym for at least 4-5 times per week and roughly 45 minutes to an hour each time. Find a local trainer at the gym or out of the yellow pages and tell them your needs. They will be able to help you with fitness goals. If you can stick to this game plan you will see results. Remember its all up to you.
